Performing at the highest levels has been core to Jonathan's approach since childhood. After attending University in Wisconsin on a golf scholarship, Jon’s education continued in Victoria. Jon joined Smart Investments in 2006 and took over the business from John Smart in 2018. In 2022, Jon made some business changes and became Alpen Investment Advisors.
He is always pleased to meet new people and discuss his investment approach through an easy-to-understand process.
Jon and his wife Jane have three children, and much of his free time is spent coaching youth baseball or watching his daughter play volleyball for Handsworth Secondary. He does still manage to enjoy the odd early morning tee-time.

Ron O'Grady has extensive experience in the financial industry, having begun his career at a major chartered bank where he held various branch management positions for 20 years. He then transitioned to an independent financial advisor, offering retirement planning and wealth advisory services to individuals and small businesses.
With a deep understanding of financial planning, unwavering ethics, and a long history of working with dedicated clients, Ron is well-equipped to help his clients achieve their financial objectives.
In July 2021, Ron joined Investia Financial Services Inc., where he met several successful advisors, including Jonathan Alpen of Alpen Investment Advisors. After a year of getting to know each other and their respective businesses, Ron and Jonathan decided to combine their skills and expertise, leading to Ron becoming a member of the Alpen team.

Patricia received a Bachelor of Administrative Studies (Hons) from Trent University and began working in the insurance and investment industry soon after. Taking on an opportunity for a company transfer, she made her way from Toronto to Vancouver in 1996, working with Prudential Insurance and London Life. It’s here that she met John Smart and joined his team at Smart Investments in 1999 and now, in 2022, continuing with Jonathan Alpen at Alpen Investment Advisors.
For Patricia, one of the highlights of being part of a small team is getting to know all our clients and building relationships with them. The focus has always been on creating a positive client experience and it is very rewarding when a plan comes together on all sides.
After living, working, and playing on the north shore for nearly 25 years, Patricia believes she now qualifies as an official British Columbian! The mountains and ocean call to her, and many hours are spent outdoors enjoying all they have to offer, especially hiking and long-distance walking. Having said that, Patricia nearly packed up and moved back to Ontario after her first month here… so much rain! Happily, she forged ahead and is glad to call North Vancouver her home.

Khwaish is currently pursuing her accounting degree at Capilano University with ambitions of obtaining a CPA certification. Originating from India and being raised in Nigeria, she gained her immense respect and love for the diverse cultures, cuisines, and football (American “soccer”). It was merely two years ago that she decided to pack and move her entire life to North Vancouver. She has always been fascinated by the breathtaking scenery of Vancouver but does miss the year around warmth of Nigeria! She is not a winter person!
Even though she is relatively new to Alpen Investments, Khwaish has been on a fast-track to adapting and understanding the day-to-day activities at play at the office. She strongly believes this was possible due to the vast patience, understanding, and mentorship of the management. She has seen the management at Alpen Investments go above and beyond to form relationships with their clients to provide the best possible experience for them. She is excited to contribute her growing expertise to clients and looks forward to further developing her skills in the dynamic field of finance.
